Mets Are Offering $80,000 To Be Their New Mr. and Mrs. Met Mascot!
The New York Mets are trying to do anything and everything to revitalize their team after one of the most disappointing seasons the franchise has ever had.
But forget about trying to build up the current players on the field. Billionaire owner Steve Cohen believes that the answer is simply that the team needs new mascots - and they're willing to spend big bucks on them!
Currently listed on the Mets HR page are two job openings to be the team's "Mr. and Mrs. Met" - the franchise's longstanding mascot. Forget about dropping hundreds of thousands of dollars on college; you can now become a mascot. Sure, you'll face some boos and angry fans, but hey - at least it's not as much of a mess as college campuses are right now, am I right?
BIG MASCOT MONEY!
"We are seeking a high-energy, enthusiastic individual to represent our brand as our Mascot," the job listing begins. "The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for entertainment and a knack for engaging and interacting with fans of all ages," while also having to attend various functions to "promote the Mets brand."
Just when you thought your 2024 was going to the dumps - you can now sport a massive baseball mascot's head that always has a smile on it despite whatever is happening in the game. Sounds stable and healthy, no?
Well, it may, after I tell you that the starting salary that is listed by the Mets is anywhere from $67.4K to $89K per year.
I don't know about you, but I did some goofy things in the past when I was growing up with my buddies here and there - and that was probably for $25 max. If the Mets are offering nearly $90,000 to be Mr. Met? I had better start learning the words to ‘Meet the Mets.’
WOULD YOU BE A METS MASCOT?
What's interesting about the Mets mascots is that they at least have giant masks on and aren't showing their real faces. Imagine being the Notre Dame leprechaun, for example? Sure, you may get recognized at the local bar scene, but I guarantee that dude isn't getting $80K+ like Mr. and Mrs. Met are.
Which begs the question - would you be willing to be either an MLB or professional sports team's mascot? I asked the OutKick audience who they would absolutely NEVER agree to represent and the answers are amazing:
It's unclear what happened to the former Mr. and Mrs., but we can only say farewell to them, just as the Mets did with ace pitchers Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer last season.
Despite owner Steve Cohen being Major League Baseball's biggest spender leading into last season, the Mets went from World Series or bust, to not even making the playoffs for the sixth time in the past seven seasons.
The Mets are currently in second to last place in the NL East with a record of .500. But hey, as the ol' saying goes - never say never!
Who knows, maybe all they need is a bit more motivation from the likes of this super happy bunch!
