Avs' Nathan MacKinnon Gets Brutal Reminder That He’ll Always Be Second-Most Famous Person From His Hometown
There are varying levels of fame, but one of the first levels you want to try and achieve is being the most famous person from your hometown. Sure, if you're from a big city that's tougher, but if you're from a small town, it's within reach.
Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon is from the town of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, and you'd think that he'd probably be a shoo-in for the most famous Cole Harbourian.
However, he's not, and may never be thanks to one Sidney Crosby being a Cole Harbour boy, and the town has an unintentionally brutal reminder for MacKinnon that his pal Sid will always be Cole Harbour's favorite son.
X user @mxaether snapped a photo of the town's sign and it shows how the Nate Dog was unintentionally done dirty.
So, you've got a "Cole Harbour: Home of Sidney Crosby" sign, and what a sign it is. It's got a nice design and is well-executed. It doesn't even have Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce logos cluttering it up, which is nice.
However, since that sign was erected there have been some other accomplishments worth noting. The town was the recipient of the 2018 Lieutenant Governor's Community Spirit Award Recipient. That's big, but not big enough to be added to that fancy original sign, so it got tacked on underneath.
But then in 2022, Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup. That's a big deal, so maybe it's time to update that original sign to "Home of Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon."
Meh, Nate Dog just got a congratulations tacked on to the bottom beneath the Community Spirit Award.
I get that there are reasons why this was done, but you won't even be able to see MacKinnon's name if someone forgets to use a weed whacker in front of the sign.
Moderate overgrowth should never cover up the fact that a native son won a Stanley Cup.
Maybe if MacKinnon adds a couple more rings to his collection they'll get a new sign, but for now, it's Sidney Crosby's town.
