MLB Jerseys Have A Sweat Problem
Major League Baseball's new uniforms continue to make news for all the wrong reasons.
With the entire league having made their season debuts, many casual fans who perhaps weren't following the headache that MLB, Fanatics and Nike have been dealing with in recent months, finally saw what the fuss was all about.
The new MLB jerseys are just not good.
Among the complaints that have been expressed include that the lettering on the jerseys looks ridiculously small while the quality of the overall uniform comes across as cheap. But that's nothing compared to SweatGate!
NIKE AND FANATICS USED A NEW JERSEY MATERIAL
I mean just look at those jerseys. These players are absolutely DRENCHED - not to mention it just looks pretty damn gross when you see the multicolor of the jersey, but instead of it being a tie-dye effect, it's legit their sweat.
And the fact that it's only MARCH and the players are already looking like this means it's going to get a lot worse. Godspeed to the Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, Miami Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays, Arizona Diamondbacks and others who are about to go swimming in the foreseeable future.
Speaking of the Marlins, they recently made headlines when fans noticed that the uniform logos didn't match. The new hats were never updated to the new jerseys, so thus, you have this madness:
This is the first year that players are trying the new Nike-made, Fanatics printed and distributed uniforms as part of their agreement that runs through 2029.
Nike says the uniforms are part of a new type of material that was supposed to let them be "lighter, more breathable, and more stretch." Uhh, that soaking wet towel of a jersey that is sticking to the players body is anything BUT more breathable.
It reminds me of the NFL trying different types of "silk grass turf," some even "scientifically engineered" that ultimately isn't any better in the end when all the players want is just regular grass.
HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?
Honestly, it's unbelievable how bad this has gotten. Did nobody - and I mean NOBODY do any research or check the boxes before submitting these things for approval?
And if nobody cares about the uniforms anymore, then why is Fanatics charging $439 for an authentic Francisco Lindor jersey? Other star players are even more expensive!
As the old saying goes - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
For now it appears it is broke but it's doubtful it's giong to be fixed.
