MLB Insider Buster Olney's Social Media Account Gets Hacked

Another old-time reporter just fell victim to an online hacker.

ESPN MLB insider Buster Olney got his X account hacked Monday. Fans quickly caught on as Olney tweeted out news that Mets star Francisco Lindor was traded from New York to Oakland, following up the post with an "I HATE METS" post and announcing that the season had been canceled due to COVID.

All plausible realities in 2020 … just not in 2024. Minus the Mets sucking part, that part is still very real.

The fake Olney also tweeted that Shohei Ohtani was in danger of going to prison for life over his gambling trouble earlier this season.

Whoever hacked Olney went on quite the run, here are the best hits from Monday:

The Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago White Sox are finalizing a deal that will send star outfielder Luis Robert Jr to Philadelphia, sources tell ESPN.

Okay, if I get an unlimited prison sentence, who will come and bring panties?

Shohei Ohtani has been banned for life from the MLB, in connection to charges with gambling. His trial is on August 28th, it is speculated he could get life in prison.

I swear to you I don't even know who I hacked, who is this Buster?

The fake Olney's posts were eventually taken down.

Now we're left to wonder the specifics of how Olney's account got hacked … did he fall for a fake crypto scheme? Was he promised very exclusive material from an account with a tantalizing profile picture?

The world may never know.
