Baseball Fans Sound Off On New MLB All-Star Game Jerseys

Just when you think Major League Baseball was done with all their uniform and jersey drama, the league has officially released a preview of the upcoming All-Star Game jerseys and many baseball fans are not pleased.

MLB has once again decided to release another ASG jersey after decades of allowing each player to wear their respective home or away team jerseys along with the rest of the league's best. The optics were pretty cool - any fan could watch along at home and see multiple uniforms of a team and immediately know that they had a stacked team that year.

NEW MLB ALL-STAR GAME JERSEYS FACING CRITICISM

However, that all changed during the 2021 All-Star Game when MLB went the way of the NBA and decided to make multiple new uniforms in what many fans believe is a cash grab move. (MLB even has a City Connect jersey, similar to the NBA.)

With this year's game set to take place on July 16th at the Texas Rangers Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, the league says that they have tried to bring that with the new-look apparel.

"The jerseys are inspired by Texas' western heritage, with typography and graphics that exude the classic vibes of the Lone Star State but with a contemporary aesthetic," MLB said in a statement. "The home American League jerseys will feature a sandy base, along with red sleeves and lettering, while the visiting National League threads will have a navy blue base, with light blue sleeves and lettering."

The only way to tell a player's team will be by looking at the individual team logo on the left sleeve.

As for how fans are responding, this is definitely one of those "don't read the comments" examples for Nike and MLB. It's pretty brutal.

NEW ALL-STAR GAME JERSEYS HAVE A TEXAS LOOK

On social media, many fans were saying the same thing - just bring back the individual players' team jerseys rather than continue to try and fix something that shouldn't have been messed with in the first place.

You'd think that because MLB had already experienced immense fall-out over see-through and lettering issues with this year's regular season jerseys that contain a different type of material thanks to a new manufacturing partnership with Nike and Fanatics, that they would have realized that sports fans are pretty damn particular when it comes to memorabilia. That's especially true for baseball fans.
