Miami Heat's Haywood Highsmith Out For Spurs Matchup Following Car Accident

Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith will miss Wednesday night's game against the San Antonio Spurs following a car accident involving the 27-year-old.

Highsmith's incident occurred after Miami's win over the Orlando Magic Tuesday night. Fox Sports 640's Andy Slater provided critical details of the accident; noting that Highsmith allegedly struck "a person helping another driver stuck in the middle of the road," as the player drove back home from Kaseya Center.

Slater added that the man hit by Highsmith's vehicle had his leg amputated. He reportedly remains in critical condition.

The Heat listed Highsmith as OUT for its contest against San Antonio due to ‘personal reasons’ in a statement released Wednesday.

"We have been made aware that Highsmith was involved in a car accident heading home from last night’s game. Highsmith is listed as out for tonight’s contest against the San Antonio Spurs due to Personal Reasons.

"Our hearts go out to those who were injured. We have no further comment at this time."

Miami heads into Wednesday's game against the Spurs (10-40) with a 27-24 record.
