McLaren's Lando Norris Talks Partying With Travis Kelce After Maiden F1 Win

With the possible exception of Las Vegas, there's no better place to take your maiden Formula 1 Grand Prix victory than Miami, and that's what Lando Norris did.

Everyone knew Norris was going to win at some point, it was all just a matter of when, and it turned out the stars aligned for Norris at the Miami International Autodrome. That isn't to say the win — McLaren's first Grand Prix win (Norris' teammate Oscar Piastri won a sprint race last season, but that's not a Grand Prix, is it?) — was a lucky one.

Sure, they caught a good bounce with a perfectly timed safety car, but Norris handled the restart with Red Bull's Max Verstappen on his gearbox perfectly and practically drove off into the sunset from that point on.

The gap was so substantial, that Norris told Greg James on the BBC's Radio 1 Breakfast show that he was planning his celebration with a few laps to go.

"The last two or three laps, I was really thinking how do I celebrate?" he said. "I was calm."

Norris then explained that some of that time was spent deciding which hand to lift the trophy with; his right or left.

Of course, that can go wrong, and if anyone knows what it's like to lose a race in the final laps it's Lando Norris (specifically the 2021 Russian Grand Prix). Fortunately for him, it all worked out and it was on to the celebrations.

Lando Norris Hung Out With ‘Legend’ Travis Kelce

That celebration involved an after party where he yukked it up with Kansas City Chiefs tight end and boyfriend to a certain pop star (Taylor something, I think), Travis Kelce.

"He was an awesome guy," Lando said. "We exchanged numbers, and hopefully I can get to a game one day.

"He's about double my height, but he was a legend."

So, Lando is becoming a Chiefs guy?

Now, this is interesting. Lando's old teammate — and the last guy to win a Grand Prix for McLaren before him — Daniel Ricciardo is a big Buffalo Bills fan. Some NFL smack-talking in the paddock could be fun.

Norris is back in action with the rest of the paddock this weekend for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola. Last year's visit to Imola was scrapped due to severe flooding in the area.
