Max Homa Offers Up Parenting Advice, And A Warning, For New Dad Scottie Scheffler
Scottie Scheffler and his wife, Meredith, announced that they welcomed their first child, a boy, earlier this week just in time for the PGA Championship. With both a new perspective and responsibility entering Scheffler's life, fellow PGA Tour player Max Homa was kind enough to offer up some advice for the new dad.
He also shared a warning for Scheffler as he enters fatherhood, and a serious one at that.
Speaking ahead of this week's PGA Championship, where Scheffler is the odds-on favorite to win, Homa was asked if he had some pointers for Scheffler as he now will have to balance being a professional athlete and a father.
It didn't take long for Homa to mention "dad back."
"Man, be really nice to your wife. Find a thing that you are good at, that you can help as best you can. Watch your back. Dad back is a real thing," Homa began.
"But I think, I mean I'm sure he'll just be giving me advice soon because he's so good at everything. Just being really good with your time. I feel like one thing I've gotten good at is, and I have a superstar of a wife, but when I'm at the golf course I feel very much at the golf course. I try to be super-efficient. I try to make sure I'm really getting my work in. Then when I'm home I feel kind of the same. Really, you know, not to make it sound like it's the same, but really efficient when I'm home I feel I'm as present as I possibly can. Really try to soak in all those moments as best I can and give my son as much attention as I can because I know I'm gone most of the day and some weeks. So, just getting really good at time management"
Man, talk about checking the boxes. Homa was sure to get multiple compliments in about his wife while clearly explaining that focusing on work while at work and baby while at home are the keys to success.
Homa didn't get off the topic without patting himself on the back though, as he explained that he is an all-time great diaper changer.
"In the very beginning I'm a pretty damn good at diapers. I don't mind it. So, yeah, if there was ever like a spare -- if there was ever we were butting heads on who was next, I would take that one. Never great at swaddling. That one killed me," Homa said.
Any dad out there can attest that swaddling isn't the easiest thing in the world, and swaddling at about 3:13 AM while the baby is screaming is one of life's great challenges.
