Matt Painter Lights Up Reporter Who Suggests Purdue Will Beat Utah State: VIDEO
Purdue coach Matt Painter was stunned by a question during a Saturday press conference.
The Boilermakers face a very talented and scrappy Utah State team in the second round of the NCAA Tournament this afternoon, and while Purdue is favored, the game should be an absolute battle.
Yet, one reporter doesn't seem to think that's the case. He suggested to Painter that Purdue, by all metrics, should win today against the Aggies.
Painter wasn't impressed.
Matt Painter has A+ response to wild question from reporter.
"Alright, let me explain something to you. Everybody in the NCAA Tournament is really good. Now when you go to that 32 (teams), everybody is that much better. They’re a really, really good basketball team. They are well-coached. This is gonna be a dogfight. Alright, it's going to be a dogfight. We’ve had a lot of experience here and we’ve had some disappointing days. There’s no way we are looking past these guys. These guys are real," Painter said in response to the suggestion Purdue will roll.
He also showered Danny Sprinkle, one of the best up and coming coaches in America, with praise. Check out the incredible moment below, and hit me with your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com. You can literally see a look of shock overcome Painter.
Truly an incredible exchange between Painter and the reporter. It was almost like the reporter was begging Painter to give the Aggies some bulletin board material.
He didn't take the bait, and he's smart for not doing so. Purdue has a history of disappointing in the NCAA Tournament.
The last thing Matt Painter and his team need is a video circulating the web that even gives the slight impression that he agreed with the suggestion the Boilermakers will roll. Never overlook an opponent. Never doubt a team in the NCAA Tournament.
Kentucky found out the hard way that any team can win or lose on any given night.
Props to Painter for his A+ response. Handled like an absolute pro. Now, let's buckle up for a very fun afternoon of NCAA Tournament action, and let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
