LSU Brags About Joe Burrow & Justin Jefferson Contracts, Calls Itself 'NFLSU'
After a long, drawn-out process – that involved many, many rumors – the Minnesota Vikings finally locked down star receiver Justin Jefferson with a massive contract extension on Monday.
The deal made Jefferson the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Last year, the Cincinnati Bengals handed Joe Burrow the highest-paying contract for any quarterback in the NFL.
Jefferson and Burrow were teammates at LSU in college, and the Tigers social media account let everyone know where two of the highest-paid players in the NFL went to school.
"The Highest Paid QB and Non QB in NFL History. This Is NFLSU," the post read, with an accompanying picture of Burrow and Jefferson. Gotta admit, NFLSU has a nice ring to it. At least, once I figured out what it meant. It did take me a second.
You see, they're using the "L" at the end of "NFL" to stand in place of the "L" in "LSU." And, when you put them together, you get "NFLSU"! Clever, huh??
Also, a smart recruiting tool. There's no better pitch to a high school kid than, "We'll get you to the NFL, and we'll get you paid."
Speaking of getting paid, that brings us to another LSU Tiger, Ja'Marr Chase.
The Cincinnati Bengals drafted Chase one season after the Vikings drafted Jefferson, so they have another year (technically two, but hard to see it getting past next off-season) to get Chase signed to a long-term deal.
The question is how that deal might compare to Jefferson's contract. The Vikings' signing of Jefferson reset the market for pass-catchers, which was expected. The question now is how it will affect future negotiations.
Ja'Marr Chase is definitely looking at that Jefferson contract as a starting point in his negotiations with the Bengals. He might top it, he might not. Either way, LSU is definitely going to have three of the highest-paid players at their positions in the NFL.
