LPGA Golfer Smokes A Camera Guy In The Head With Shot
A scary scene unfolded Friday when a golfer accidentally drilled a camera man in the head during the second round of the Scandinavian Mixed.
Madelene Sagstrom was attempting to get out of the rough on the par-4 18th hole at Sweden's Vasatorps Golfklubb when she sent her third shot down the left side of the fairway. The one-time LPGA Tour winner yelled, "FORE!" but unfortunately, the ball still smoked a camera man right in the dome before bouncing to the middle of the fairway.
The man collapsed to the ground.
According to Andy Roberts of GolfMagic, the 31-year-old golfer was shaken by the incident, and she ended up with a triple-bogey on the final hole. Unfortunately, she needed a par to make the cut.
Scandinavian Mixed is an event co-sanctioned by DP World Tour and Ladies European Tour. It's a unique event because 78 men and 78 women go head-to-head on the same course for one prize pool and one trophy.
Fans, staff and camera operators always run the risk of being hit by a ball when being so close to the action during golf tournaments.
Just last week, a spectator was knocked off a seat by a misjudged shot from Thriston Lawrence at the European Open. And Max Homa came within inches of slamming a shot into a fan's head at the Players Championship in March.
Of course, there was also that poor bird Isi Gabsa smoked at the U.S. Women's Open last week.
Fortunately, though, DP World Tour pro Joost Luiten said the camera operator was immediately taken into hospital for treatment. He has a banger of a headache, but he'll be OK.
