Louisville Mayor Confirms There's No Bodycam Footage Of Scottie Scheffler Incident That Got Him Arrested

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard that the No. 1 golfer in the world - Scottie Scheffler - got arrested just before he was set to appear in the PGA Championship in Louisville, KY on Friday.

He was charged with quite a few things: second-degree assault of a police officer (a felony), criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic. Allegedly, he drove past an officer who was trying to direct traffic around a police scene. That’s a hectic way to start a Friday, much less right before you play in a major tournament!

So now that the dust has settled from this big kerfuffle, you’re probably super interested in seeing tape of the footage of this incident. Bodycam footage from Louisville Metro Police Det. Bryan Gillis (he was the one Scheffler allegedly assaulted) would certainly add some more texture to this massive story.

Well, don’t hold your breath. There is no such footage.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg confirmed that as of right now, there is no video from Officer Gillis showing exactly what transpired on Friday morning.

"The officer did not have a body cam footage turned on during the incident we will release the footage that we have," Greenberg said. "We did not have any … to my knowledge. We have not discovered any video of the initial contact between Officer Gillis and Mr. Scheffler."

However, Greenberg did say that there is footage from across the street that will be released soon. So we will get to see some of what took place, albeit from a distant perspective.

After the incident, Scheffler apologized and called the incident a "misunderstanding."

"This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers. It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do," he said. "I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I’m hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.

Scheffler is set to appear in Jefferson District Court on May 21.
