USWNT Captain Lindsey Horan Calls American Soccer Fans Dumb Making The Team That Much More Insufferable

With Megan Rapinoe retiring from soccer, someone had to step into the role she left behind and continue the journey of making the USWNT the most unlikable team in sports. It appears Lindsey Horan has accepted the position.

Over the last handful of years, the USWNT seems to have checked every box applicable to not only divide its fanbase but to lose fans in droves.

Whether it be some players taking a knee during the playing of the National Anthem, promoting nothing but radically liberal politics, believing biological men belong in women's sports, or completing the worst World Cup performance in team history last summer, the USWNT has done everything in its power to become the definition of insufferable.

The only group of people the USWNT hasn't pointed its (middle) finger at are the loyal American soccer fans who support all things USA-related no matter the circumstances off the field.

Horan, the captain of the national team, recently changed that. During an interview with The Athletic, Horan said American soccer fans "aren't smart." In other words, Horan thinks American soccer fans are stupid.

"American soccer fans, most of them aren’t smart," Horan said. "They don’t know the game. They don’t understand. (But) it’s getting better and better."

The next spillage of word vomit to leave her mouth seems to be related to the fallout at the Women's World Cup, which anyone who was paying attention during the summer will be able to connect the dots.

"I’m gonna piss off some people," Horan continued, "but the game is growing in the U.S. People are more and more knowledgeable, but so much of the time people take what the commentators say, right? My mom does it!" She breaks into laughter. "My mom says, ‘Julie Foudy said you had such a good game!’ And I’m here, just going, ‘I was fu-king sh-t today.’"

Horan was one of the many players on the Women's World Cup squad to take offense to comments made by former USWNT captain Carli Lloyd during the tournament.

Lloyd rightfully criticized the USWNT's celebratory behavior after an embarrassing draw with Portugal to sneak into the knockout stage. She later addressed the sense of entitlement among players on the team and was crucified by people incapable of hearing the truth or constructive criticism.

Horan took exception to Lloyd's accurate criticisms and couldn't look dumber doing it. She initially claimed that Lloyd had "no idea" what the team was going through or what the day-to-day looked like. Lloyd played in over 300 games for the USWNT and led the team to two World Cup victories.

Following the team's early exit in the tournament, Horan admitted that the USWNT wasn't fully prepared, which only validated Lloyd's criticisms.

It's been six months, but Lloyd is still living rent-free in Horan's head, and she's taking out those frustrations on the fans still sticking around for this team.
