Kyle Larson's Indianapolis 500 Helmet Is A Sight To Behold

IndyCar teams are on-track this week (kind of, we'll get to that) ahead of qualifying this weekend for the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500.

One of the most intriguing drivers in the field is 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson, who will drive the No. 17 Chevrolet for McLaren at Indy then jet on down to Charlotte and hop in his normal ride — the No. 5 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports — for the Coca-Cola 600.

Larson is the first driver since Kurt Busch in 2014 (who finished an impressive P6 at Indy) to attempt double duty by competing in the two iconic races on the same day.

So, a special occasion calls for a special helmet and Larson has just the ticket.

Look at this beauty.

That's a top-notch brain bucket.

You've got the iconic Yard of Bricks and the iconic Pagoda, as well as Larson's No. 17.

The coolest touch, however, is that Larson's car is next to the late Johnny Rutherford's old No. 3 McLaren. Rutherford won three Indy 500s, the first two of which were for McLaren.

It's a great-looking lid, and so far, Larson's foray into IndyCar has been pretty solid.

The first day of practice was limited to just over 20 minutes and a big portion of the second day of practice was also lost thanks to weather.

However, when he did get on track, Larson finished the session in P15. That's impressive considering a lot of the sessions looked to include more race sims.

Of course, the first part of running in the Indianapolis 500 is qualifying, and that's definitely an intimidating part of the whole experience. As of early afternoon Thursday, we haven't seen many qualifying sims, thanks in large part to the messed up schedule, but we should expect to see those on Friday, or Fast Friday as it's known.
