Klay Thompson Uses Boat To Rescue Draymond Green From Pro-Palestine Protest Traffic
A good teammate like Klay Thompson will always have your back — even if he has to perform a dramatic water rescue to get you out of a tough situation.
On Thursday's episode of 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony and The Kid Mero, Draymond Green described a bonding moment with his Golden State Warriors teammate that sounded more like a scene out of a movie.
Back in November, Green had just flown in from Los Angeles after serving his latest suspension (this one was a five gamer for putting Rudy Gobert in a choke hold). The 33-year-old was trying to get to the Warriors’ gym in San Francisco, but he was stuck on the wrong side of the bay — thanks to pro-Palestinian protests that had shut down the Bay Bridge.
But who needs a bridge when Klay Thompson has an Axopar 37 Cabin?
"Klay came on his boat across the water to pick me up in Jack London Square in Oakland," Draymond recalled. "[VP of team operations] Eric Housen tried to get the cops to, like, escort me through. Nothing could work. You could not get across."
Nothing new for Thompson. The five-time NBA All-Star spends most of his free time out on the water — even using his boat (which he nicknamed "Nordic Knife" or "Splash Express") to commute to and from the Chase Center in downtown San Francisco.
"You can’t have a bad day when you’re on the boat," Thompson told the New York Times in 2021. "It’s been so good for my mental health. When the days would get really tough, I would take a cruise into the city or toward Oakland or just be out in nature. It always helps."
So if you ever find yourself stuck in traffic down by the Wharf, just keep an eye out for a tall, curly-haired dude on a 37-foot fishing boat. Maybe he can give you a lift.
