REMINDER: Kevin Costner's Horrible NFL Draft Film Is A Must-Watch Today

Ladies and gentlemen, it's that time of year again:

Time to fire up "Draft Day" with Kevin Costner.

The NFL Draft kicks off tonight in Detroit, and fans around the country are excited to see what new pieces get added to their favorite teams.

A lot of dreams will come true tonight, a lot of young men will make some serious money, some teams will get stronger after finding hidden gems and there will also be plenty of busts. It's the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.

There's no better way to prepare than with the 2014 movie starring Costner as Cleveland Browns GM Sonny Weaver.

"Draft Day" is somehow horrible and awesome at the same time.

"Draft Day" follows Weaver as he searches for answers about presumed top overall pick Wisconsin QB Bo Callahan. Is Callahan all he's cracked up to be or did he not have any friends who showed up to his birthday party? Apparently, NFL GMs dictate draft stock by whether or not a guy's birthday party was well-attended.

There are so many outrageous parts of this film that it's hard to even know where to begin. Let's list a few big ones:

  • Sam Elliott is Wisconsin's coach (lol).
  • The scenes of Wisconsin's campus are so obviously not Madison that's comical.
  • The first pick of the draft is a linebacker with dialogue so bad a fifth grader could have written it.
  • The Browns starting QB - Brian Drew - somehow is a major talent…..because he found a $100 bill taped to the back of a playbook during his draft process. This is something Bo Callahan did not do!
  • Jennifer Garner, who is solid in the movie, has too many girl boss moments to count.
  • Weaver somehow fleeced the Seahawks in what would be considered the most lopsided draft trade in history.
  • Diddy plays Callahan's agent.
  • Too many cringe cameos to count.

And yet, despite all the massive plot holes and stupidity of the film, "Draft Day" just seems to hit the spot every single year when it's time for the NFL Draft.

It's the perfect mindless fun to get people in the mood for what's coming tonight. It's the definition of a guilty pleasure movie, and we shouldn't apologize for it.

The movie is both awful and glorious. It's almost impressive how the movie pulled it off. It's currently streaming on Peacock or can be cheaply rented, and if you're not watching it ahead of the draft, then it's your loss! Let me know your thoughts on the movie at David.Hookstead@Outkick.com.
