Kendrick Perkins Tries Accusing Shaq, Charles Barkley Of 'Not Watching Basketball' After Sleeping On NY Knicks
The TNT basketball guys, namely Shaq and Charles Barkley, aren't confident in the second-seeded New York Knicks ahead of the upcoming NBA Playoffs.
Here's a clip of them admitting it …
ESPN talking/mumbling head Kendrick Perkins wasn't happy about the hot takes.
Led by the Herculean Jalen Brunson, the Knicks amassed an impressive 50-32 record.
The days of Mike Woodson's failed teams are over as Tom Thibodeau's rebuild appears on the upswing. But with his postseason woes, Thibodeau's Knicks still have a lot to prove.
While Shaq and Barkley stated that New York would be an easy first-round exit, Perkins vehemently disagreed.
Joining ‘The Michael Kay Show’ on Monday, Perkins (whose own NBA commentary is glib) mocked the duo and accused them of not watching NBA games before giving their respective opinions.
"It's obvious (that) they don't watch basketball," Perkins said." "I'm serious, they can't watch basketball on a consistent basis. The only time they actually probably watch the Knicks is when they're covering the Knicks on their game nights."
Perkins added, "If you're watching the New York Knicks, there's no way in hell that you can just downplay the way they've been playing the game of basketball."
Considering the ESPN pundit's spotty past in commentary, watching him critique the TNT stars was comical.
Keep in mind that this is the same guy who couldn't fathom having Nikola Jokic as his MVP over Joel Embiid last year solely based on the color of the Serbian's skin.
While Shaq and Barkley have been wrong plenty of times, their joint forecast for the Knicks' first-round exit isn't an uncommon opinion.
The Knicks will face off against either the Miami Heat or Philadelphia 76ers.
This year's Knicks can be the anomaly in Thibodeau's bad streak of postseason failures. Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, Donte DiVincenzo and more key players are more than capable of catapulting the Knicks to a deep run in the East, even with complementary star Julius Randle sidelined with injury.
Former NBA player Eddie House actually stated that the Knicks might prove to be a better team without Randle's services.
Between the conflicting narratives surrounding New York, there is a resounding uncertainty about how far this team can go. And while we'd love to grill Kendrick Perkins for shooting off the occasional dumb take, he may have a reason not to count out the Knicks against Barkley and Shaq's disapproval.
"Imma say this. It sounds funny when I think about it, and I'm saying it: The Knicks are better off without Julius Randle," Eddie House said, appearing on 'The Carton Show.'
House added, "Imma tell you why, It's because he's a ball-stopper, and Jalen Brunson is (too). So now you got two guys that are gonna dominate the ball. I think Jalen is more of a guy that… dominates the ball, but he's going to get others involved whereas Julius Randle is looking just to get his."
Perhaps Kendrick should be more critical against ESPN teammate Stephen A. Smith, who seemingly forgot last week on his eponymous online show that Quentin Grimes no longer plays for the Knicks."
