Kansas City Chiefs Player Suffers Medical Emergency During OTA Meeting

A scary scene occurred during the Kansas City Chiefs' OTAs on Thursday after a player suffered a seizure that led to cardiac arrest during a team meeting.

Second-year defensive lineman B.J. Thompson suffered a medical emergency on Thursday, prompting the Chiefs to cancel all team activities for the day. CBS Sports shared on Thursday that the team will reconvene on Friday for a meeting.

Thompson suffered the seizure during a special teams meeting and was rushed to the hospital. The 25-year-old is reportedly in stable condition. He was a fifth-round pick in 2023 out of Stephen F. Austin in 2023.

One softball team holding a celebrity game on Thursday hosted the Chiefs' team chaplain, who held a moment of prayer before the crowds in attendance.

The league continues to pick up the pieces from the tragedy in 2022 when Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Since the scary incident, Hamlin and the NFL have worked with different organizations dedicated to heart health and encouraging CPR training for emergency situations. Bills medical personnel performed CPR on Hamlin and attended to the player for 15 minutes before an ambulance took him off the field.
