Justin Timberlake Teaming Up With Tiger Woods To Open Up Bar In St. Andrews Two Weeks After DWI Charge
Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods have long been working towards opening a sports bar together around the corner from St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland, and the duo have reportedly gotten the go-ahead to do so. Two megastars opening a business together isn't exactly Earth-shattering news, but given the timing of it all, it's certainly newsworthy.
In case you may have missed it, Timberlake was arrested in the Hamptons and charged with one count of driving while intoxicated shortly after midnight on June 18. The jokes of Timberlake officially opening up a new bar less than two weeks after he was arrested for driving while intoxicated literally write themselves.
Woods is experienced in being arrested while driving under the influence as well. In May 2017, the 15-time major winner was arrested for driving under the influence in Jupiter Island, Florida at around 3:00 AM after being found asleep in his stationary car.
As for this sports bar venture, this isn't Timberlake and Woods' first go.
The duo opened up a ginormous bar in New York City last year called ‘T-Squared.’
New York City and Fife, Scotland are two very different places, of course. New York City is built on new ideas and change, while the town of St. Andrews dates back to 1140 and is rooted in history that outdates the United States by hundreds of years.
It should come as no surprise that many of the residents of Fife aren't thrilled with the idea of welcoming a new-age sports bar to the town.
Woods and Timberlake submitted plans to the Fife Council to take over a 1930s cinema in town called the New Picture House that would see just three screens of the cinema being retained.
St. Andrews Community Council member Neil Dobson made it clear to The Courier that he's solely against the proposal in October 2023.
"What’s next, Trump buying the West Sands for a hotel? I find this very disrespectful and a bit cheeky, to be honest," Dobson said.
"This town has been very good to Tiger Woods and this is not the way to repay residents. St Andrews is unique and that building is iconic. An American bar is completely out of keeping."
St. Andrews is also home to the University of St. Andrews, and students losing a theater in the isolated small town would be a shame in the eyes of some residents.
After seemingly delaying things as long as possible, the Fife Council has bent the knee.
"The proposal is considered acceptable in terms of design, detailing and choice of materials; and would protect and enhance the character and appearance of the conservation area," the council said, according to the Daily Mail.
"As such, the proposal is considered to be in compliance with the relevant policies of the development plan and relevant guidelines."
Timberlake and Woods have reportedly been asked to preserve historic paintings by artist Ada Hill Walker located inside the theater.
The bar - which is expected to offer between 45 and 50 full-time positions once fully operational - is planned to open in the Spring of 2025.
