Justin Thomas Dumps Caddie Just One Week Before The Masters

Some rather surprising news broke from the PGA Tour on Wednesday as Justin Thomas announced that he has decided to part ways with caddie Jim "Bones" Mackay just one week before The Masters.

"While incredibly difficult for me to say, Bones and I have parted ways," Thomas wrote, in part, on X (formerly Twitter). "I'm going to be forever thankful for him joining me on the bag in 2021.

"I know there are great things coming for both of us down the road. I wish him the best of luck and will always count him and his family amongst my friends."

Thomas made a follow-up post showcasing several photos of the pair during their time together.

As of now, it is unclear who Thomas plans to have caddie for him next week in Augusta.

Thomas, a former No. 1 player in the world, has really struggled over the past few seasons. He earned the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Rankings in 2018. Thomas remained inside the Top 10 through the early part of the 2023 season. That run included a PGA Championship victory in 2022, his second victory at the event.

Since then, though, it's been all downhill for Thomas. He fell outside the Top 10 after missing the cut at the 2023 Masters. He then missed the cut at the U.S. Open and at The Open Championship. The missed cut at The Open came after Thomas shot an unfathomably terrible 82 in the first round.

Thomas hasn't won a PGA Tour tournament since that 2022 PGA Championship victory, and he currently sits at 28th in the Official World Golf Rankings. That's his lowest ranking since 2016.

Thomas recently had one of the worst putting rounds in the history of the PGA Tour, losing over seven strokes on the greens during the third round of the Valspar Championship.

Clearly, Thomas felt he needed a big change, so he made one. We'll see if it helps at The Masters next week.
