Jung Hoo Lee Becomes Third Outfielder The San Francisco Giants Have Lost To Injury This Weekend

The San Francisco Giants are thanking their lucky stars that they have a farm system right now, because none of their major league outfielders can stay healthy.

In just the first inning of today’s game against the Cincinnati Reds, center-fielder Jung Hoo Lee tracked down a deep fly ball from first baseman Jeimer Candelario. Not lacking in effort, Lee launched himself into the air in an attempt to make an out.

Unfortunately, he came up just short of making the catch - and seriously hurt himself in the process.

My shoulder felt sore just watching that.

Naturally, Lee was taken out of the game due to a left shoulder sprain (I’m surprised that’s all that happened there). For the Giants, seeing their big offseason signing was the latest instance of a troubling trend for their roster.

On Friday, right fielder Austin Slater made a similar attempt to catch a fly ball, and just like Lee, he took a nasty crash into the wall. He left that game with a concussion.

San Francisco placed Slater on the 7-day concussion list after the hit.

As if that weren’t enough, the very next day, Michael Conforto got himself hurt on a simple turn around first base. He landed on the 10-day injured-list with a hamstring strain.

So that’s three outfielders in ***check notes*** three consecutive days. Mike Yastrzemski remains the only healthy outfielder on the Giants that was on the Opening Day roster.

As if those outfield injuries weren’t enough, San Francisco has a slew of other stars dealing with their own ailments. Jorge Soler, Blake Snell, Nick Ahmed, Tristan Beck, and Ethan Small are all dealing with various injuries.

So yeah, the Giants would probably like it if their guys could stay healthy. It would probably help them climb past fourth place in the NL West.

Fortunately, the Giants were able to redeem the afternoon somewhat by winning today's game, 6-5, in 10 innings.
