Jordan Poole Enters His Nomination For Worst Play Of The Year With A Terrible Inbound Pass

Washington Wizards guard Jordan Poole got demoted to the bench for last night’s game against the Denver Nuggets. A good thing too, because he played like a bench player.

Late in the third quarter and his team down by 16, Wizards forward Corey Kispert cut to the basket and adamantly demanded the ball.

But Poole saw him a fraction too late. He might have been daydreaming about how much he’d rather be on the Warriors than with a team that hasn’t won 10 games yet. Or he might be thinking about all the ways he’s failed to live up to his $128-million contract. Either way, he missed Kispert at first, but still passed it to him.

Or at least, that’s what he tried to do.

Instead of hitting Kispert in the hands, Poole generated about as much force with his pass as a toddler would. He dropped it like a hot potato barely a foot inbounds, and could only watch as Nuggets guard Jamal Murray came up with the easiest steal of his life.

Calling this an "inbound pass" would be an insult to inbound passes. Nevertheless, we don’t have another word to accurately describe what happened, so we have to use that term.

The rest of Poole’s night wasn’t much better. Sure, he did play a starter-level of minutes (30) despite coming off the bench, and racked up 18 points.

But he also missed 13 of the 17 shots he took (second-worst of all players who made at least one shot), and seven of those points came from the free throw line. That’s not a great shooting pace for a guy that played nearly 75 percent of the game in a 130-110 loss.

And then, of course, we have this atrocity that we are legally obligated to call an "inbound" pass."

Someone needs to give Poole some chlorine, so he can clean up his play. Otherwise, the few people in Washington who still come to Poole parties won't want to anymore.
