Joe Mixon Is Sick Of Everyone Saying He's Going To Be Cut
There's widespread speculation that the Cincinnati Bengals will cut ties with Joe Mixon this off-season. But don't tell him that.
The veteran running back took to social media Thursday to clap back at rumors that the Bengals are ready to move on from Mixon to clear up some space on the salary cap.
"Lmao y'all said this last year too," Mixon wrote on X. "That's [clown emoji] behavior."
While Mixon is laughing off the rumors, they certainly aren't unfounded. The 27-year-old currently carries an $8.85 million cap hit for 2024. And he already agreed last July to take a pay cut in order to stay in Cincinnati.
"His goal is to win a Super Bowl and play his career in Cincinnati, and this is the best way to accomplish these goals," Mixon's agent, Peter Schaffer, said at that time.
Last season, Mixon was the Bengals' only threat in the backfield. Mixon rushed for 1,034 yards in 2023 — no one else on the team even reached 200 yards.
But the Bengals took running back Chase Brown out of Western Michigan in the 2023 Draft. Brown spent several weeks on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. But assuming the 23-year-old is fully healthy in 2024, Cincinnati's running game could look a whole lot different this time around.
"Even if Mixon accepts a pay cut similar to the one he took ahead of 2023 to stick around, he could struggle to lead the team as his carries would be greatly reduced with the emergence of Chase Brown," Pro Football Network's Jay Morrison wrote.
Still, Mixon seems pretty confident he's not going anywhere. Let the off-season drama begin.
