Joe Burrow Teases Bringing Back The Randy Moss Fake Mooning Celebration

Joe Burrow thinks it might be time to bring back one of the NFL's most infamous touchdown celebrations.

Appearing on the most recent episode of Barstool's Pardon My Take podcast, the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback teased the idea of fake mooning the crowd — an homage to legendary wide receiver Randy Moss.

"Randy Moss — fake moon the crowd," Burrow said "If I get a rushing touchdown this year, I might bring back the fake moon. It’s got to be on the road, though."

After one of the co-hosts suggested that he do it against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Burrow simply replied, "OK."

I hope that's a promise.

The original celebration happened during the 2004 NFL Playoffs when Moss played for the Minnesota Vikings. During a Wild Card playoff game against the Green Bay Packers, the four-time All-Pro caught a touchdown pass and then immediately pretended to pull down his pants and moon the crowd.

At the time, commentator Joe Buck was unreasonably offended by the antics. And, as seriously as humanly possible, he stated, "That is a disgusting act by Randy Moss, and it's unfortunate that we had that on our air live. That is disgusting."

But Buck has since softened his stance on the fake mooning taunt. Appearing on the This Is Football podcast in January, the now-ESPN broadcaster said he wishes he could take the call back — citing that he and Moss have now worked together as colleagues and that Moss is actually a really nice guy.

"The more time goes on, the more I think, 'Man, I can't believe that even came out of my mouth,'" Buck said.

But 20 years later — if Burrow comes through — Buck might have the opportunity to redeem himself. And even though he won't be in the broadcast booth for the Bengals / Steelers game, he'll at least appreciate a good, wholesome fake moon this time around.
