Jimmy Butler Jokes About His Suspension After Role In Heat-Pelicans Brawl
Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler showed he can put a positive spin on almost anything, even getting suspended.
A total of four players (including Butler) received suspensions for a brawl between the Heat and New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night. It all started when Heat forward Kevin Love aggressively fouled Pelicans star Zion Williamson, which angered Naji Marshall.
After seeing the hard foul, Marshall went over and confronted Love. That drew the attention of Butler, who was then promptly choked by Marshall. This incident turned a noticeably heated confrontation into a full-on melee.
That’s not quite the same level as the "Malice at the Palace" fight, but it’s nonetheless intense.
Butler and Marshall each earned one-game suspensions for their roles, and Thomas Bryant and Jose Alvarado received three-game bans. After news broke of his suspension, Butler found a way to have some fun with it.
The guard frequently posts songs that he enjoys on his Instagram story, and that served as inspiration for his hilarious quip. In successive stories, Butler shared "Locked Up" by Akon, "Jail" by Kanye West, and "Life" by K-Ci & Jojo (see the theme?).
Of course, getting suspended for one game is far different than getting a life sentence in the real world. But I appreciate the dramatic response, it adds a nice element to the situation.
He also posted a picture of him and teammate Nikola Jović photoshopped over a poster of the movie "Bad Boys." And of course, Butler made time to jokingly tell everyone that the whole situation was Jović’s fault in the caption.
It looks like Butler’s humorous response will get him through this obviously "difficult" situation.
