Jim Irsay Contradicts Police Report, Shuts Down Overdose Speculation After Being Found Unresponsive

When Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was found unresponsive in his home in December 2023, authorities pointed to a suspected overdose as the culprit. Now, months later, Irsay is attempting to shut down any speculation tying him to an possible overdose.

"It wasn’t an overdose,’’ Irsay told Fox 59. "I don’t know why when you have your name in the paper in the past, people throw that out there quickly. I don’t pay attention to it all that much, but I don’t think it’s fair.’’

Irsay stating he did not suffer an overdose contradicts the official police report.

TMZ initially reported that it had obtained police documents back in December that explained that cops made their way to Irsay's home at around 4:30 AM on December 8 after someone found him "unconscious on a bathroom floor with a blue skin tone." The report also noted he was "unresponsive" and "cold to the touch."

When authorities arrived, Irsay had been moved to a bed where he was found struggling to breathe along with a weak pulse. The report stated that police administered one dosage of Narcan in an attempt to wake him, which is a common tactic used to revive people who had potentially overdosed on opiates.

"At this time, it is unknown what Mr. Irsay had ingested prior to our arrival," police documents reportedly noted. Police classified the incident in the documents as both "overdose" and "overdose/poisoning." He was eventually taken to a nearby hospital via ambulance. Fox 59 also confirmed police reports cited a possible overdose.

Irsay shared a message on social media in February following the incident simply stating that he was "on the mend" without going into any detail.

Irsay has been open about his struggles with addiction - mostly to painkillers - over the years. In a November interview with HBO Sports, he said he'd been to rehab "at least 15 times." The 64-year-old also acknowledged a near-fatal incident several years ago during which he said he went "code blue" and had to be revived.
