Jason Kelce In Damage Control After Claiming Secretariat On Steroids
Jason Kelce is backtracking after claiming that famed horse Secretariat was on steroids.
During his New Heights podcast with brother Travis, the two began discussing this past weekend's Kentucky Derby. The conversation eventually shifted to the GOAT, or the GHAT if you would, as the two marveled at just how dominant the late Secretariat was.
But Jason Kelce had a simple explanation for it - Secretariat was juicing and taking steroids just like NFL players were at the time.
'SECRETARIAT WAS JUICED TO THE GILLS'
"1973… every NFL player, every baseball player they were juiced up to the gills - you don't think Secretariat was juiced to the rafters? Of course, it's the fastest horse of all time!" Kelce continued.
"Nobody talks about it, but Secretariat was doping, there's no chance Secretariat wasn't doping," the recently retired Eagles center continued. The comments came after Travis broke down some of the records that the championship thoroughbred racehorse still holds to this day, including the fastest times in all the three Triple Crown events.
However, less than 24 hours later, Jason Kelce is apologizing to the horse crowd out there.
How dare Jason question the integrity of a horse or the sport of horseracing. And over doping allegations of all things? Can't say that, Jason, even if it's been found to be allegedly true by a number of the horse industry's greats - including popular trainers like Bob Baffert and Todd Pletcher.
KELCE CAVED AND IT DIDN'T WORK
"I'm sorry everyone, I wasn't trying to get people riled up, I really thought it was just known that in the 70s steroid use was rampant," Kelce tweeted Thursday. "I'm not trying to take away from Secretariat's or anyone from that era's legacy," he continued before saying it was unfair to assume the horse was cheating.
Jason Kelce now finds himself in the predicament of surrendering his original belief in order to pacify a certain crowd. Based on social media reactions, it doesn't appear that's going to work - with many still mad at Kelce for even insinuating Secretariat's wins weren't legitimate. Meanwhile, others showed their disappointment in Kelce for giving into the outrage. If you believe the horse was riding, you're allowed to say that
It's a lose-lose situation for Kelce. He's damned if he apologized and damned if he didn't.
Welcome to being in the spotlight and having every comment you make ripped apart, Jason.
Better start growing some thicker skin - especially with that new ESPN contract of yours.
