Hanging With Michael Jordan At Talladega, To Throwing Dead Fish, Alabama's Jalen Milroe Has Been A Busy Man
Jalen Milroe had one of the busiest weeks of his life as the starting quarterback for Alabama, and it was capped off by the gunslinger tossing a fish as far as he could throw it.
I'm sure you're wondering what the heck I am talking about, but if you're from the Gulf Coast and have spent a few hours taking down drinks at the Flora-Bama lounge around the Orange Beach, Alabama area, then you know a good time was had this past weekend.
But before Jalen Milroe, Kalen DeBoer and Nate Oats made a stop at the biggest party along the beaches in lower Alabama, the Tide' quarterback was hanging out with Michael Jordan at Talladega last weekend. All of this comes on the heels of a massive push from the Alabama athletic department and its NIL collective to get their student-athletes more screen time.
It's almost fascinating to watch, seeing that the football program has taken on a more public approach when it comes to getting their players out into the public to interact with sponsors. All while, at the same time, raising money for their collective. Having Jalen Milroe and some of his teammates attend the race at Talladega makes perfect sense with the partnership between NASCAR and the University of Alabama, but getting to hang with Michael Jordan on the same day that one of his cars won the race was just icing on the cake.
But, as much fun as you can have at a NASCAR race, and trust me, you can have a great time on Talladega boulevard, i don't know if it can beat the party that took place this past weekend on the Gulf Coast.
Throwing A Fish As Far As You Can Is The Goal, Jalen Milroe Delivers
No, this wasn't a 4th and 31 situation as we all remember from this past Iron Bowl against Auburn. That saw Alabama win on one of the craziest plays of the 2023 season. But, being yelled at by Auburn fans, while Tide fans watch you chuck a mullet as far as you can has to be up there in-terms of wildest things these guys have done while at Alabama.
The Alabama coaches and players were spending time along with Gulf Coast as part of their collective's ‘Tide On Tour 2024’ event. Regarding what fans will see on the field this upcoming season, head coach Kalen DeBoer said this team is on their way to putting it all together.
"I think we’re on our way, you know, doing what we want to do and what we need to do here at Alabama and that’s to win a lot of football games," Kalen DeBoer told FOX10. "I think we will have an exciting style of play, both sides of the ball and all phases. So, it’s coming together in a great way. A lot of work to do, but we’re excited about this club."
The ‘Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party’ is one of the wildest events I've ever attended, so I can only imagine what Alabama's Kalen DeBoer, Nate Oats and Jalen Milroe were thinking when they strolled onto the beach Saturday afternoon for a chance to get around the state and spread the message about the athletic department.
First off, it will cost you $20 to throw the dead fish, with all funds raised from the toss going towards local addiction centers for alcohol and drugs. You will toss the fish across the Alabama-Florida state line, which certainly adds to the intrigue.
For Jalen Milroe and his group, this was a chance to show off their arm-strength, though throwing a dead fish will have zero impact on the starting quarterback position, I just want to make that clear.
I also have to give credit to Alabama's Malachi Moore, who sent one of the dead fish launching through the air. But it was Jalen Milroe who was showing off his arm, sending the sloppy mullet 94-feet into the sand and across the state lines of Alabama and Florida.
I don't know if you could have a better week than the starting quarterback at Alabama, besides winning football games. Getting to hangout with Michael Jordan at a race where one of his ‘Jumpman’ cars ended up winning, and then heading south to the beach so that you can hang with fans and throw a dead mullet 94-feet.
Sounds like a very good time to be the starting quarterback at Alabama.
