Jaguars Executive And AEW Owner Tony Khan Calls WWE The Harvey Weinstein Of Wrestling

AEW Wrestling owner and Jacksonville Jaguars executive Tony Khan didn't hold back his thoughts about the rival WWE on Thursday night.

During an appearance on the NFL Network in which Khan stayed in wrestling character by appearing in a neck brace as if he was Andy Kaufman, the billionaire was asked about his wrestling promotion where he decided to deliver this gem of a comment.

"The AEW is like the Pepsi of pro wrestling while WWE is like the Harvey Weinstein of pro wrestling," which led the NFL Network broadcasters to visually become MORTIFIED.

TONY KHAN'S WEINSTEIN COMMENTS HAVE GONE VIRAL

Talk about the Will Ferrell in Anchorman clip of "Well, that escalated quickly!"

The announcer's immediate reaction was one of an exasperated, "Did he just say that?" awkward laughter before they quickly moved on and dropped Khan as fast as they could while you just know some network big wigs were freaking out as well.

And although there's nothing funny about what Harvey Weinstein was criminally found guilty of doing, there is that old saying that "it's funny, because it's true." In this instance, former WWE owner Vince McMahon resigned from his position after a sex trafficking lawsuit and an ongoing investigation. It's the second time that McMahon stepped aside from the WWE after a massive sexual misconduct lawsuit from a former female employee was filed in 2022. McMahon later returned to his position in 2023.

TONY KHAN'S FATHER SHAHID KHAN IS BILLIONAIRE JAGS OWNER

Khan may have thought he was being witty with his comment, but some on social media chastised him for ruining what was a great opportunity for him to promote the AEW in a credible way. Instead, by showing up with a neck brace and then bringing up a Weinstein reference during the NFL Draft of all things? Kinda cringe.

But then again, the entire idea of professional wrestling has been built on the absurd. Hell, Donald Trump once "fought" Vince McMahon in a match in which the loser had to have their head shaved! (Needless to say, the Don won that one.)

As far as the football side of things goes, Khan and his father Shad - who is the primary owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars - chose Louisianna Satate University wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., after trading the 17th pick to the Vikings in return for the 23rd pick as well as later draft picks.
