It's Official, Derek Jeter Sucks At Cartwheels
Derek Jeter made the right decision in life by choosing to pursue baseball instead of gymnastics.
The former New York Yankees shortstop made a living off of clutch hitting and making exceptional defensive plays. Many of his feats with the glove bordered on being acrobatic and weren’t frequently seen on the diamond.
But making acrobatic plays on the baseball diamond doesn’t mean you have the aptitude to succeed at gymnastics. That’s particularly true for Jeter.
This weekend, the Yankees legend tried to do some cartwheels in his backyard while his wife, Hannah, recorded his attempts.
You’d think this would be simple stuff for the man as athletically gifted as "The Captain." But it proved to be far more difficult for him than anyone one of us could possibly imagine.
During his first attempt, his feet barely left the ground. The same thing happened on his second attempt, and his third. Hannah watched the whole thing, half amused, half horrified.
"Derek, seriously, what the hell," Hannah said while giggling.
Derek was kind enough to share the whole thing with us on Instagram.
Of course, lots of his followers chimed in with their thoughts in the comments section.
"I can physically do something better than Jeter. I needed this today," one fan said.
"Pro Athlete, All Star, Hall of Famer, Dad, can't do a cart wheel tho," another added.
But one user pointed out that seeing Jeter be unable to do something was an unusual experience.
"The only time we’ve seen Jeter fail," he said.
For my part, I’m willing to give him some grace. The guy is 49 years old, a difficult age to try and learn to do cartwheels. Plus, I even have difficulty landing them myself, so I’m willing to back off on this one.
And that’s coming from a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan.
