Israel's National Anthem Booed At Olympics, Fans Wave Palestine Flags Ahead Of Soccer Match Against Mali

Israel's national anthem was met with loud boos at the Paris Olympics as it played ahead of the country's opening soccer match against Mali on Wednesday. Many fans in attendance were seen waving the Palestinian flag throughout the playing of the anthem as well.

The Israel soccer team arrived at the stadium under heavy police escort that included about a dozen riot police vans following them, according to the Associated Press.

While Mali supporters sang its country's anthem proudly, when the Israel national anthem began playing over the stadium's loudspeakers, it was met with boos and jeers. The stadium speakers played the anthem louder as the boos grew in an attempt to drown them out. A number of Palestinian flags made their way into the stadium as well.

Another video shows a group of people on the front row inside the stadium wearing shirts that spelled out ‘Free Palestine.’ All 13 of the cowards wore masks in an attempt to hide their faces.

The boos did not stop throughout the match, either, as Israeli players were booed each time they touched the ball.

The match finished in a 1-1, with Israel taking the lead after an own goal from defender Hamidou Diallo in the 57th minute. Mali found an equalizer shortly after courtesy of a Cheickna Doumbia powerful header.

With soccer and a handful of other sports already beginning their Olympic quest, security will be tamped up an entirely different notch during Friday's Opening Ceremony with 45,000 officers set to be deployed.

France’s Interior Minister, Gérald Darmanin previously stated that Israeli athletes would be protected 24 hours a day by elite police unit GIGN.
