Incarnate Word, Texas A&M-Commerce Players Scrap In Wild College Basketball Fight That Bleeds Into Crowd
Fists were thrown and people were hurt at a Monday night men's college basketball game between Texas A&M-Commerce and Incarnate Word.
With names like that, it was bound to be a wild fight, and it delivered. And frankly, while the game had a winner, both teams looked like losers after this barbaric scrap; moments after A&M secured the 76-72 win in overtime, playing at Alice P. McDermott Convocation Center in San Antonio.
"This is not good … this is really bad!" the ESPN broadcast shared, in awe.
The Southland Conference game was hard-fought but ended on a sour note. Players got testy as they engaged in post-game handshakes. Then, all hell broke loose.
Players and coaches on both sides were hurt as punches began flying and bodies hit the hardwood court. The commotion made its way into the crowd. One woman in attendance was injured.
"Someone in the crowd was hurt and hit," the broadcast added as the fight made its way from the half-court to the stands. "We have a manager with blood on his face."
Ugly, ugly stuff.

Expect major discipline for both teams after this type of buffoonery. The Southland Conference released a statement regarding the fight, as relayed by CBS Sports' Kyle Boone, calling it ‘unsportsmanlike behavior’ from the teams. They emphasized upholding safety for players, coaches and fans alike.
"The Southland Conference is aware of the end-of-game situation that occurred between the Texas A&M University Commerce and the University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball teams tonight.
"We will be working closely with both universities to review footage and issue an appropriate disciplinary action. Unsportsmanlike behavior is unacceptable in the Southland Conference and the safety of our student-athletes, coaches, spectators, and officials remains a top priority."
College basketball fans haven't seen this much action since last year's brawl between Robert Morris and Jacksonville. The fight resulted in 17 player ejections.
It'll be a President's Day worth forgetting for Texas A&M-Commerce and Incarnate Word. And somewhere in California, Draymond Green watches with envy.
