Guardians First Baseman Josh Naylor Celebrates A HR By Whacking Himself In The Head With His Bat

Hitting a home run in baseball is one of the most electric feelings in sports. It makes you want to yell at the crowd, hype your teammates, or put some swagger in your step as you round the bases.

Or, if you’re Cleveland Guardians first baseman Josh Naylor, whack yourself in the head with your bat.

In the bottom of the fifth inning in a game against the Oakland Athletics, Naylor nuked a pitch from Alex Wood into the right-centerfield stands to give his team a 4-2 lead. If you watched the live feed of the game last night you would have seen him admiring his blast immediately after making contact. I would have too, the ball traveled 410 feet.

But what cameras didn’t immediately show was that Naylor chose an unorthodox way of celebrating his dinger.

Instead of flipping his bat like a normal person, Naylor took one look at his bat and tried to crack it over his head.

I don’t know if he was in the mood for a screaming headache, or just trying to do his best Bo Jackson impression. But he seemed to enjoy it.

After the game, manager Stephen Vogt didn’t sound terribly surprised that Naylor hit himself. He even supported the decision, as long as he didn’t get hurt.

"That's Josh Naylor man. Obviously he's emotional and charismatic. As long as he didn't concuss himself, I'm alright," Vogt said.

While Naylor said after the game that it didn’t hurt, he might want to find a different celebration. That doesn’t look like a sustainable way to celebrate home runs.
