Royal Troon Delivers A Glorious 91 As Nasty Weather Causes Mayhem On Day Two At The Open

Royal Troon showed a bit of bite during Thursday's opening round of The Open, specifically during the morning wave of action with rain and wind picking up as Dan Bradbury's 83 stood as day one's highest score. The second-round honor fell to Japan's Aguri Iwasaki on Friday as he delivered the oh-so-rare score in the 90s at a major championship as the winds wreaked havoc on the Scottish links.

Iwasaki began his day inside the tournament cut line after carding a 3-over 74 on day one. Things were looking good for the 569th ranked player in the world during the early stages of his second round Friday as well, playing his first six holes at just 1-over.

After dropping two more shots going out, he made the turn at 6-over, but his hopes of making the weekend still very much alive.

Those hopes, however, died, and died fast, on the back nine.

After picking up a bogey and a par on the 10th and 11th holes, Iwasaki proceeded to make a double bogey on the Par 4 12th. This may have been the point of the round where Iwasaki had enough because what came next was truly stunning.

Iwasaki pushed his tee shot right on the Par 4 13th hole, was unable to find it forcing a re-tee, in which he sent that ball, his third shot, out of bounds forcing another re-load on the tee. He was still standing on the teebox when he played his fifth shot. Another penalty was incurred after finally putting the ball in play, and he walked off the green with a nine.

While the 13th hole was an adventure, the Par 3 14th was a marathon.

Iwasaki found a greenside bunker with his teeshot on the 197-yard hole, and would stay inside a bunker for his next five shots.

The shot tracer of Iwasaki's efforts around the green is a piece of art.

Finally walking off the green, Iwasaki had to write a nine on the scorecard for the second straight hole.

Likely not knowing what planet he was on at this point, he somehow made three straight pars after his pair of 9s, but Troon decided to bite him one last time with a triple bogey on the last.

For those keeping count, that's a 39-52 for a 91.

We pray for insanely difficult conditions and for these professionals to look human during The Open, and Iwasaki granted everyone's wish on Friday afternoon.
