Giants Unveil "Century Red" Uniforms That Sure Look A Lot Like A Certain NHL Team's Sweaters

The New York Giants are celebrating their 100th anniversary and part of the celebration involves wearing special "Century Red" uniforms for two games this season…

…and people can't un-see just how much these new get-ups look like Montreal Canadiens uniforms.

The G-Men made the big reveal on Thursday. The set uses some elements from different eras — pants and socks from 1925, the jersey from 1938, and a helmet design from 1938 — and swirls them together in something that looks exactly like a Habs uniform.

When I saw this on X, I thought the CFL's Montreal Alouettes were wearing special Canadiens jerseys or someone had done a series of concepts reimaging NHL teams as NFL teams.

Nope. This is what the Giants will be wearing "up to two times" this season (which is a weirdly non-committal attitude toward it) but they did not say which games those would be.

The team said that this design took 2 years, and at some point, someone involved had to have said, "Does anyone else think this is starting to look Montreal Canadiens-ish?"

Someone had to have noticed because the resemblance is uncanny.

The colors, the striping, even the brown pants (which the Canadiens used to wear back in what history scholars refer to as "the day" and occasionally break out for throwback uniforms). That's the Habs!

And believe you me, people (myself included) noticed.

I think it's a great look, and why wouldn't it be? The Habs have one of the best jersey sets in hockey, and it looks like the design translates rather well to the gridiron. That's how you know it's a good look.
