Georgia Tech's Brent Key Truly Despises The Georgia Bulldogs, Like Genuinely Hates The In-State Rival
I think it's fair to assume that Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key does not like his in-state rival in Athens. Actually, ‘does not like’ isn't strong enough verbiage when it comes to the Yellow Jackets coach. Hating the Georgia Bulldogs with a passion is a better way to put it when it comes to the rival school.
If you follow college athletics, then you know that there is no love loss between the two teams located just over 90 minutes from each other. And why shouldn't they hate each other? This is one of the most storied rivalries in all college football, even though Georgia has beaten the Yellow Jackets six years in a row.
So, when Brent Key was standing in front of a room full of Georgia Tech fans this week, he did not hold back on expressing his feelings towards their in-state rival, according to the AJC.
"There’s nothing I hate more in the world. It’s probably the only thing I actually hate," Brent Key reportedly said to a group of boosters. "When I say hate, like, truly despise everything about it. I really do."
I mean, I don't blame the coach for how he feels. I'm actually glad to see a college football coach show his true emotions towards a rival. But man, Brent Key REALLY hates everything about the Bulldogs, and rightfully so. The former Georgia Tech player actually won three games against the Bulldogs during his playing days in the Atlanta area, but has since come up short in his coaching career, including last season's thrilling contest.
Brent Key Hates One Play More The Most
Unfortunately for the Georgia Tech staff, memories of that 2023 loss to Georgia are still talked about on a daily basis, according to Brent Key.
"Three minutes and 31 seconds with three timeouts left, we’re down by eight," Brent Key rehashed about the ending of the 2023 game. "Muff the onside kick, get (Georgia) to third-and-3, they run a toss sweep out of the bunch formation to the boundary. (Linebacker) Kyle Efford is about two inches away from making the tackle."
One thing to remember about that Yellow Jackets team from last season was the emergence of former Texas A&M quarterback Haynes King, who seemed to finally find his footing in Atlanta.
So how many times do Brent Key and his linebacker Kyle Efford actually talk about that missed tackle, that sealed the win for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs?
"I think about it every day. (Efford) thinks about it every day. We talk about it every day."
Man, that's a lot of hate, but at least Brent Key is directing it towards his rival school. Sure, he was speaking to a crowd full of alumni, but I have a feeling that hatred towards the Bulldogs really does keep him up at night.
