Former USMNT Star Alexei Lalas Calls Anti-Israel Protests 'Performative Cosplay'
Now that the weather is starting to warm up across the United States, it's time for idealistic, bored and misguided college students to take up a cause that involves trying to make everyone else miserable. This year's flavor is anti-Israel, pro-Hamas protests, and they are taking over campuses.
Of course, these kids waited for the weather to get warm. It's not fun standing up for a cause outdoors when it's cold. No, the cause is only as important as the discomfort the protest causes. That's why these protestors are now demanding "hot lunches" less than 24 hours into their "protest."
Former US Men's National Team star Alexi Lalas took to X (formerly Twitter) and posted one of the most accurate depictions of these protests that exists.
"For many of these protesters it’s performative and disposable cosplay," Lalas wrote. "A temporary distraction, a shiny object, an app, an ice cream truck, a desire to look cool, or a FU to authority. ‘Twas ever thus. It’d be funny if it wasn’t so sad, disgusting, hurtful, destructive, and dumb."
Well said, Alexi. What's funny is that people now accuse Lalas of becoming a Republican or a Conservative now that he's older and rich. They believe that he was a liberal when he was a young soccer player.
But, Lalas finds himself in a position in which many of us find ourselves. It's not that we've become anything different. Our views barely change. It's simply that the goalposts continue to move, mostly to the left.
The extreme left has moved so far left, that they now see those who are in the middle as being to the right.
"My beliefs really haven't changed much over the years," Lalas wrote. "Although conservative/liberal definitions may have."
