Former MMA Star Jon Jones Facing 2 Misdemeanors After Intimidating Drug Test Agent

UFC heavyweight champ Jon "Bones" Jones is facing two misdemeanor charges after intimidating a drug test worker back in March.

Bones faces up to a year of jail time and a total of $1,500 in fees, as relayed by MMA Junkie. The latest run-in with authorities prompted further concern over the famed fighter's well-being.

The incident occurred at Jones' home in New Mexico on June 30 when the drug tester set the 36-year-old fighter off by requesting a urine sample. The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) issued a summons to Jones for assault and interference with communication.

According to the DFSI (Drug Free Sport International) worker, Jones seemed to be intoxicated when he verbally attacked her for requesting the urine sample and confiscated her cell phone, also making a death threat toward the employee.

Jones allegedly told the worker, "Why you f***ing people come so early? Do you know what happens to people who come to my house … they end up dead."

Jones previously took to his social media to refute claims of having harassed the DFSI employee.

"I want to address reports about me allegedly threatening a drug tester’s life and taking a phone," Jones posted on Instagram.

"I want to clarify that there is a video showing both drug testers leaving my home after the testing session, where we exchanged a high five and a hug. Although I was frustrated with the unprofessionalism and used profanity out of frustration, it ended friendly and amicably, nothing threatening at all. I was actually celebrating a friend’s birthday party at my home, and I believe it’s perfectly normal to celebrate in the comfort of my own home.

"I must say, this particular tester behaved quite unprofessionally and even breached standard protocol along with HIPAA laws. Throughout my 20 years of being subjected to drug tests, I have never encountered such an incident with a DCO officer before."

Jones' next hearing, scheduled virtually, is set for July 17.

Off-the-canvas issues have plagued Jones' career, working against one of the best careers built by a UFC star. Jones' 27-1 record (1 NC) and two UFC light heavyweight titles pit him as one of the sport's all-time bests inside the octagon.

Jones was out of the UFC since 2020 but returned for his latest match on March 2023, defeating Ciryl Gane with a first-round submission at UFC 285.
