Fan Realizes Stanley Cup Has Never Had An 'Evan' Until This Season
There are hundreds of names etched on the Stanley Cup's rings, but a fan has realized that there's one name that has never appeared on the greatest famous trophy in sports but is guaranteed to show up after this year's Cup Final: Evan.
Hell yeah. Score one for the Evans.
A fan whose name is — would you believe? — Evan, made this realization and posted his findings on X.
That's right. Panthers forward Evan Rodrigues and Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard will face off against each other which means that no matter the outcome of the Cup Final, whoever engraves the Cup better get ready to drop an "E-V-A-N" for the first time.
Although, wouldn't be kind of hilarious if they goofed it up? Like the engraver just got completely caught off-guard by an Evan. It could happen. There have been quite a few players whose names have been messed up like Adam Deadmarsh (Deadmarch), Bob Gainey (Gainy), and goalie legend Jacques Plante whose name is spelled five completely different ways.
Team names like the Leafs and Bruins have even been messed up over the years. so that's why we need to stick the landing with "Evan."
What an exciting time to be an Evan. It's a fine name, but I searched "Who are the most famous people named Evan?" and here is what I got for the top 4:
- Evan Bayh, the former Governor of Indiana
- Evan Lysacek, figure skater
- Evan Parker, tenor and soprano saxophone player
- Evan Rachel Wood, star of Westworld
I don't know that I agree with the order — like, at all; Evan Longoria came in at No. 7 — but that's not the most star-studded list you'll find for a first name.
It's not Tom or Chris or Scott or — dare I say — Matt, which many say is the handsomest, most badass name you can have you can have.
Do you know how many players with the names Matt, Mat, Mats, Matthew, or Mathieu are engraved on the Cup?
I don't know either, but I'd assume probably a lot.
So, congratulations to all the Evans out there. You guys (and gals, I see you Evan Rachel Wood; I loved Westworld season, most of season 2, and a few minutes of season 3… didn't bother to watch season 4) have earned this.
Actually, you haven't. Only Evans Rodrigues and Bouchard have, but you know what I mean.
