'F--- You, Brooks Koepka!' Aaron Ekblad Calls Out LIV Golfer At Stanley Cup Parade
Aaron Ekblad finally got to celebrate a Stanley Cup title Sunday after being with the Florida Panthers for 10 long years - and Brooks Koepka was the person at the forefront of his mind.
Why is that?
Well, first, let me just show you what he said. Also, take note of the traffic cone on his head. That’s going to be important later on.
Simple, to the point, and wildly confusing…if you don’t know the history between these two.
Koepka Once Called Out Ekblad After A Poor Play
Koepka is a die-hard Panthers fan, and can frequently be seen at the Amerant Bank Arena cheering on the Cats. In 2023, he attended a game against the New York Rangers in which Ekblad made a bad play that resulted in a Rangers goal (New York would win that game 4-3).
A passionate fan like Koepka was certainly displeased, especially since at that point of that season, the Panthers could ill afford to lose games if they wanted to go to the playoffs.
So Koepka grabbed a traffic cone and indicated that he was comparing Ekblad to the road construction object.
In hockey, calling a defenseman like Ekblad a "traffic cone" is a direct insult to their mobility. Defenders naturally have to move a lot to stymie oncoming forwards, and guys that aren’t good at doing that get told they have as much mobility as a traffic cone.
The defenseman indicated that he was not a fan of the insult after the game.
"We’re not buddies. Never be buddies," Ekblad said.
Fortunately, Koepka apologized, and Ekblad forgave him for the insult. That doesn’t necessarily make them tight friends, but it certainly smooths things over.
Fast-forward just over a year later, and Ekblad is a Stanley Cup champion. What better way to verbally get at a critic than by calling him out while celebrating a title?
