Ex-Pats WR Julian Edelman Calls Bluff On Stories About Aaron Hernandez

Julian Edelman is calling bluff on an ex-New England Patriots teammate's stories of Aaron Hernandez, the troubled Patriots tight end.

In the Apple documentary series ("Dynasty") about the Patriots' championship era, former Pats player Wes Welker spoke of Hernandez as a free-reining character at practice, putting the onus on then-coach Bill Belichick for enabling Hernandez to go down the dark path he encountered.

Hernandez was arrested in 2013 and convicted for the murder of Odin Lloyd. The victim's girlfriend, Shaneah Jenkins, was related to Hernandez’s fiancée. From his jail cell, the Patriots tight end committed suicide in 2017.

Welker said in the documentary: "I remember thinking like, ‘Why does he [Belichick] love this guy?’ I don’t get it. I don’t get it. But when you’re that talented, a lot of people put up with a lot of stuff."

Edelman thought Welker put too much blame on Bill. He addressed Welker's not-so-accurate look at Belichick and his team on his "Games with Names" podcast.

"Welker’s out here saying like Aaron Hernandez got away with murder — figuratively speaking — at practice; that’s not even true," Edelman commented. "Welker painted the picture he [Hernandez] was like the king, like he got to do anything. I remember Bill ‘motherf**king’ Aaron all the time.

"Come on, Welk. Trying to make up stories. We know you don’t like Bill."

Considering Hernandez appeared ‘bizarre’ since his days in Gainesville, blaming Bill Belichick for Hernandez's action felt like a stretch.

Members of the Patriots organization have spoken out against the Apple TV+ series for ‘deliberately’ casting a negative light on New England's dynastic run.

After all, when you dedicate an entire episode to the Patriots' Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants in 2007, some people may start to see it as a hit job.
