Stephen Jackson Shames Gayle King For, As A Black Woman, Rooting For Caitlin Clark More Than Dawn Staley

Former NBA player turned wannabe Black Lives Matter activist Stephen Jackson revoked Gayle King's Black Media Card over her fandom of Caitlin Clark, the white female basketball sensation from the University of Iowa. 

Over the weekend, Jackson uploaded a clip on social media criticizing King for rooting for Clark in the NCAA women's basketball championship in a matchup that featured South Carolina coach Dawn Staley on the opposite sideline.

Jackson asserted that King owed Staley her support because they are both black women and Clark is not.

"So, Gayle King's supposed to be somebody that's big in the journalism space, right? And I don't consider [her] black media. Y'all give her all these passes [sic] because she's Oprah's friend. I don't give a fuck whose friend she is. But you cannot demean Dawn Staley like that," Jackson started.

"You're talking to her about winning the championship, about going undefeated. And you had the nerve to get on there and say, we was rooting for Caitlin Clark and you broke everybody's hearts. Who is we? All the black people was rooting for Dawn Staley. We're all fans of Caitlin Clark, but the way you put it, that shit was trash."

First, King did not "demean" Dawn Staley.

Jackson references King's interview with Staley on "CBS Mornings" the day after South Carolina's national championship win, in which King simply commented that "we were all cheering for Caitlin."

King wasn't alluding to black people when she used the term "we," as Jackson complained. She used "we" to represent the nationwide interest in Caitlin Clark. 

Check the ratings: Clark is a transcendent star. Her style of play is riveting. She's Steph Curry-esque, if you will.  

But say King did root for Caitlin Clark; why is that worthy of such outrage? 

What is the harm in a black woman cheering for a white woman playing basketball? Who said black people in America must root for black coaches and players?

Is there an equal rule that orders white people to only root for white players and coaches?  If so, that would vastly limit the popularity of non-white figures.

Stephen Jackson sounds ignorant. He sounds like another uninformed ex-jock trying to find a lane in social justice warrior-ing. 

Of course, that's what he is. However, his commentary further promotes an ugly but growing divisiveness around the sport of basketball. 

Jackson joins a lengthy list of black voices to express a nasty sense of racial animus over the recent success of white basketball players. Kendrick Perkins,  Gilbert Arenas, Sheryl Swoopes, Stephen A. Smith, Kevin Hart, and Cedric the Entertainer are a few of the others.

See, Jackson didn't shame Gayle King over not publicly supporting Dawn Staley. Oh, no. Jackson shamed King over not publicly rooting against Caitlin Clark. 

Jackson views Clark as a threat, a threat to a historically black sport. He, thus, believes that fellow black public figures ought to deem her the enemy. 

Call it tribalism, insecurity, or what it is: blatant racism. 

I'd prefer to live in a society where Americans of every skin color are allowed to root for athletes of any skin color. Evidently, Stephen Jackson and the alarmingly-resentful anti-white basketball brigade do not concur.

Note: it's unclear if Gayle King can earn back her Black Card or if Jackson's revocation is permanent.
