NFL Teams Had Their Season Summarized By A Simpsons Clip. Here Are The Top 5
The 2023-24 NFL season concluded with (another) Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory. While the Chiefs season ended in ideal fashion, 31 other teams had distinctly unique outcomes to their years.
It would take me hours - or a painfully long article that I have no desire to write - to accurately summarize how the year unfolded for every NFL franchise. Fortunately, I don’t have to, because one X page did it in about 10 seconds for each team.
The "Simpsons NFL" X page posted a clip from the iconic show that describes each team’s season. It was a genius idea, and the whole thread is here (they missed some teams in the process).
But to save you a bit of time, I’ve found five of the best clips. Without further ado, let's let America’s favorite family take it away.
1. Detroit Loins.
Led by Dan Campbell and a resurgent Jared Goff, the Lions clawed their way to a 12-5 record, an NFC North title, and a berth in the NFC Championship Game.
The Lions led by 17 at halftime of that game against the San Francisco 49ers, and they could smell the franchise’s first Super Bowl berth in history. But alas, they choked away that lead and lost 34-31.
It was that historically bad loss that prompted the inspiration for the first Simpsons summary on today’s list.
That’s bitterly sad for Lions fans, but hilarious for the rest of us. Maybe next year will finally be their year.
2. Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks didn’t have a terrible year; they finished 9-8. But they did end up losing the playoffs, which served as the death knell for head coach Pete Carroll.
Shortly after the season ended, Seattle fired their 72-year-old skipper. Of course, there’s a clip for that.
Carroll wasn't completely "useless" with the Seahawks, he made the playoffs in 10 of the 14 years at the helm and won a Super Bowl. But after getting to the title game in 2014 and losing to New England, Seattle never won more than one playoff game in any postseason.
So maybe there was some truth in Homer’s roast of old people.
3. Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders might want to forget about this season as a whole. Sure, they finished second in their division and found their head coach of the future in Antonio Pierce. But other than that, there wasn’t a ton to be proud of while finishing with a losing record.
Oh, they also had to watch Kansas City win a title on their home field. So yeah, that’s going to overshadow pretty much anything you accomplish in a season.
Which is why Bart’s words ring especially true for much of Raider Nation.
4. Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers are the most puzzling team in the NFL.
They have so much talent at pretty much every important position on both sides of the ball. What do they have to show for it? One playoff game (a loss) in the past four years, and a 5-12 record this season.
What Simpsons dialogue could describe this level of ineptitude? This one.
Maybe the arrival of Jim Harbaugh will help change the outlook for the franchise. But for right now, that "failure" label holds a lot of truth to it.
5. San Francisco 49ers
Like the Chargers, the 49ers have a mind-boggling level of talent on their 53-man roster. Unlike Los Angeles, they’ve actually done something with all those stars.
Except win a Super Bowl.
For the second time in four seasons, the 49ers saw their Lombardi dreams get crushed at the hands of Patrick Mahomes and Co. So what will the offseason look like for San Francisco?
In addition to trying to boost team morale, it will likely involve what Bart experienced after a thief stole his TV monitor.
And there you have it, an accurate season summary for these NFL teams. Who would have thought the Simpsons could have helped us out in such accurate fashion?
