It Sure Sounded Like An ESPN Broadcaster Said 'Bit-h' During The LSU-Vanderbilt Women's Basketball Game

Pronunciation is important, especially when you're trying to say the word ‘bench’ with some emphasis behind it. That word can very easily sound like another five-letter word that begins with the letter ‘b,' and ESPN broadcaster Carolyn Peck gave us a perfect example of that.

While on the call for the LSU-Vanderbilt women's basketball game on February 8, Peck, a former associate coach for the Commodores, decided to share some advice for the bench.

Only it didn't sound like she said the word bench, it sounded like she said ‘bit-h' with some boldness behind it.

"As a coach, I'd say ‘bench, stay in this ball game, stay excited, stay enthusiastic, pull your team through," Peck said.

Peck is from Jefferson City, Tennessee, and her noticeable Southern accent did her dirty in this scenario. As a fellow Tennesseean with a Southern accent, I'm allowed to point out Peck's drawl. Those are the rules.

There isn't anything for Peck, who has 28,000 followers on X, to say about the misheard word other than simply laugh about it, and she's yet to address her unique use of ‘bench’ publicly.

Folks on X, formerly Twitter, had plenty of fun with the clip, which has been viewed over 3.4 million times at this point.

LSU went on to beat Vanderbilt in Nashville by the count of 85-62, but the biggest story of the game centered around the one-word Peck hilariously said during the break in the action.
