Empire State Building Gets Revenge Against Hurricanes
I don't know if any skyscraper around the globe likes to smack talk on social media as much as the Empire State Building and on Thursday night it took a swing at the Carolina Hurricanes.
If you saw the game, you'll know that the Hurricanes were knocked out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs thanks to an unbelievable comeback from the New York Rangers with Chris Kreider scoring three goals in the third period to send the Rangers to the Eastern Conference Final.
Well, the Empire State Building — or at least the social media person who runs its X account — has a long memory.
That's because you may recall another shocking third-period comeback involving the Hurricanes, only they were on the winning side.
It happened in Game 2 of the opening round against the New York Islanders with the Hurricanes scoring three in the third, including a pair in the final minutes to win en route to a 4-1 series victory.
When it happened, the Hurricanes had a one-word message for Isles fans.
The Empire State Building doesn't pick sides. If you've got "New York" in the name, it's going to bat for you.
I don't know if the Empire State Building is a big enough psycho to have bookmarked that original tweet back in April or if it had to do some digging to find the original tweet.
However it happened, revenge was served.
You've got to appreciate a landmark going to bat for the city's team. I can't imagine the CN Tower going to bat for the Leafs like this, but then again, it hasn't had many opportunities in the last 20 years.
The Rangers are waiting for the Bruins-Panthers series to wrap up to see who they'll face in the Conference Final, and I can only assume that they hope both teams continue to wail on each other the way they have at times this series.
