Dustin Johnson's Level Of Not Caring Has Officially Hit An All-Time High, And It's Honestly Pretty Awesome
If someone was asked to describe Dustin Johnson without mentioning the freakish things he can do with a golf club in his hands, everyone would start by commenting on his nonchalant demeanor. There may not be a professional athlete on the planet that portrays an ‘I don’t give a damn about anything' attitude more than DJ. His recent admissions about his golf game and the state of the sport in general only cemented his legacy as the guy who simply does not care.
Johnson began his 2024 LIV Golf campaign by firing a 4-under 67 in Mayakoba last week before eventually finishing in a tie for fifth at 8-under. Nobody was surprised by Johnson finishing inside the Top Five, well, nobody except him.
Ahead of this week's LIV event in Las Vegas, Johnson admitted that he essentially didn't pick up a golf club in the offseason until the week leading up to the event in Mayakoba.
"I spent a lot of time at home with the kids, not much time at the golf course," Johnson told the media in Vegas. "Sometimes it's good to take some time off, but I practice a little bit, right before we went to Mexico and then I worked pretty hard in Mexico at my game. I was pretty surprised by my finish last week, I'm not going to lie."
The reactions from teammates Patrick Reed and Harold Varner III say it all. Johnson beat Reed by five shots and Varner by 14 in Mexico despite clearly not practicing at all ahead of the tournament.
Just as it isn't surprising that Johnson barely picked up a golf club this offseason, it's no shock that he admitted to not knowing anything at all about the PGA Tour's recent $3 billion investment deal with Strategic Sports Group.
"To be honest, I have no idea,’ Johnson told the Daily Mail when asked about the Tour's recent deal. "I mean, obviously I know the gist of it - it's a group that's investing some money into the Tour… but that's about as far as it goes. I haven't read anything on it."
By no means should Johnson or any LIV player be obligated to know details about a deal involving the Tour, but his level of not caring when the Tour is still in merger talks with the Saudi PIF - the sole funder of LIV Golf - is legitimately hilarious.
Johnson doesn't have time to practice or read, he's busy being a dad and spending the hundreds of millions he received for joining LIV Golf, and you certainly can't fault him for that.
