Dodgers Starter Tyler Glasnow Met His Girlfriend In Just About The Best Possible Way
Tyler Glasnow has become one of baseball's best pitchers over the past few years, but his game on the field may be exceeded by his game off it.
During the telecast of Friday night's game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, Dodgers announcer Joe Davis told the story of how Glasnow met his girlfriend, Meghan Murphy. Apparently, while playing with the Tampa Bay Rays, Glasnow noticed a girl in the crowd, which, given how few fans attend Rays games, isn't surprising, and said to himself, "she looks cute."
He asked the team photographer for help, and they used the camera to zoom in on her. A closer look confirmed his opinion from a distance, so he grabbed a ball, put his phone number on it with a note saying "text me," and threw it up to her in the stands.
She then came back to the next game with a ball herself, put her number on it with a note saying, "no you text me." Sure enough, he did, and they've been together ever since.
Pretty baller move for the 30-year-old starter! And it worked.
Tyler Glasnow Dominating On The Field Too
There's a solid case to be made that in his first season in Los Angeles, Glasnow's been one of the best two or three pitchers in baseball.
Through nine starts, he's 6-1, striking out more than 11 hitters per nine innings. After another dominant seven-inning performance against the Padres on Friday night, his ERA is down to just 2.53. His 73 strikeouts also lead Major League Baseball.
While other pitchers have a lower ERA, Glasnow's length within starts; his efficiency within outings, means he leads baseball in innings pitched. It's hard to strike out that many hitters and go deep into games, but that's exactly what he's done.
And it's helped lead the Dodgers to a commanding division lead early in the NL West, with one of the game's best odds of winning their division and making it to the playoffs.
He still claims that he never threw a ball up into the stands for any other girl, but with how well he's pitched this year, he certainly could.
