Denver Nuggets Cancel Re-Scheduled White House Visit To Focus On Quest For Top Seed In The West

After scheduling conflicts and picking a new date on the calendar, the Denver Nuggets have reportedly canceled their trip to the White House to celebrate their 2023 NBA title.

Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report shared the news during NBA on TNT pregame coverage on Thursday night, explaining that Denver's decision to cancel their trip set for March 18 is strictly due to basketball reasons.

The Nuggets were originally scheduled to visit the White House for their glorified photo-op with the President in late January, but the Biden administration had to reschedule due to a conflict on its end.

With March 18 fast approaching, the Nuggets have now canceled on the President due to their tightly-contested battle for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

With 19 regular season games remaining, the Nuggets sit one game back of the top seed currently held by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Denver is scheduled to play the T-Wolves on March 19, the day after their re-scheduled visit date.  That led them to cancel it ahead of what could be a pivotal game for playoff seeding.

The March 18 visit would have been sandwiched between a visit to Dallas to play the Mavericks on the 17th before jumping on a plane and traveling to Minnesota on the 19th.

The Timberwolves recently announced that star big man Karl-Anthony Towns will miss around a month of action after undergoing surgery on a torn meniscus.

Minnesota isn't the only team in the West the Nuggets have to worry about stealing the top spot.  The Oklahoma City Thunder currently occupies the No. 2 spot in the conference standings, just a half-game back of Minnesota.

Denver won't meet the Thunder again during the regular season but will get three shots at the Timberwolves down the stretch.
