David Pollack Talks About How Fining Players Could Help Solve Georgia Driving Issues
College football analyst and former All-American David Pollack joined Chad Withrow and Jonathan Hutton on the latest episode of OutKick's Hot Mic With Hutton & Withrow.
They touched on a bunch of topics as we inch ever closer to the start of the college football season, and one of those topics was the continued on-the-road issues that are popping up at the University of Georgia.
Withrow brought up to Pollack — a former Bulldog himself — head coach Kirby Smart's recent comments about Georgia's NIL collective fining players for driving issues, something the program has seen plenty of, including the incident that led to the deaths of offensive lineman Devon Willock and staffer Chandler LeCroy.
The host expressed surprise that the money belonged to the player once it had been dished out by the collective but that doesn't appear to be the case.
"They're employees now, bro," Pollack said. "We can spin this however we want, but they're employees, they're getting paid, and listen, that might be the only thing that works, because — let's be honest — Kirby Smart is a great coach. He knows how to handle discipline, he knows how to handle his players. He's the best at it. But they keep getting in trouble off the field.
"It's like they want to be Fast & Furious, y'know?" he continued. "And they just continue to have driving instances. Even when you a teammate [last year], which you'd think would wake people up and hit you right in the face, but it's the one thing Kirby hasn't been able to get a handle on."
Pollack said that maybe taking money away from players will send a message when it comes to off-the-field behavior like this.
"It's so different, man," he continued. "When I went to school, did I have perks? Absolutely. But they've got the money, they've got the power and the fame with social media, man.
"With so much stuff it's hard to stay grounded, and unfortunately, with Georgia, the driving situation; it's been a mess."
