Davante Adams Says He Doesn't Regret Leaving Packers, But It Kind Of Sounds Like He Does
As of right now, it's unclear who will be throwing passes to Davante Adams come September. But one thing is for certain: It won't be Jordan Love.
Adams and Love spent a couple of seasons together with the Green Bay Packers when Love was Aaron Rodgers' backup. But now with the Las Vegas Raiders, the three-time All-Pro wide receiver is watching Love's success from afar.
Still, in an appearance on Maxx Crosby's The Rush podcast this week, Adams says he doesn't regret leaving Green Bay.
"I’m the poster child for ‘you make a decision, and you live with it’ at the end of the day. I never regret anything," Adams said. "I don’t care if I came here and my career went to sh-t. You gotta make decisions and roll with it. If you one of the people that gets hung up on hindsight, then you’ll lose your f-cking mind playing this game."
Davante Adams Gave Up Jordan Love For Derek Carr
The Raiders acquired Adams from the Packers in 2022 and then signed him to a five-year, $140 million contract extension. At the time, the six-time Pro Bowler was thrilled to work with his longtime friend and former Fresno State teammate Derek Carr. In fact, he said Carr was the reason he became a Raider in the first place.
"Having a young guy that had no experience, for me, it was tough to stay in that position and say, 'This is what's best for me, for sure,'" Adams explained. "Derek was, at one point in the league, you know, he was an MVP candidate. Like you can't say anything. You can not like Derek personally, but you gotta respect what he's done and that he solidified my decision to come here."
But last off-season, Las Vegas traded Carr and brought in Jimmy Garoppolo from the San Francisco 49ers — a decision that prompted comments from Adams about how he didn't see "eye-to-eye" with then-general manager Dave Ziegler.
Lucky for him, Las Vegas solved that problem by firing Ziegler and head coach Josh McDaniels in November. Antonio Pierce then took the helm, and the franchise removed his interim tag earlier this year — a move Adams was fully on board with.
But the Raiders still haven't solved their quarterback problem. And, as of right now, veteran Gardner Minshew and second-year Aidan O’Connell are set to battle it out for the QB1 spot. The Packers, on the other hand, have their guy in Jordan Love.
"I don’t regret anything, but what I will say is that — not that I doubted [Love] in any way because I definitely seen it. I seen the potential in there," Adams said. "…At the time when I was there, I hadn't necessarily seen enough to say, ‘This is for sure what I should do.’ But in hindsight, like we talked about, I mean, the kid is a f-cking baller, man. I'm so happy for him."
